Finding Rhythm Together: African and Latin percussion workshops

Finding Rhythm Together are workshops run by accomplished, professional African and Latin percussionists. They are a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in African or Latin drumming and are available to beginner, intermediate and proficient drummers. Drumming is a very inclusive form of music that anyone can have a go at. During the workshops participants learn how to match the rhythms they produce with those of others. This is an excellent way to develop listening skills, teamwork and creativity as well as improving rhythm and co-ordination. All are encouraged to put their own compositions together for the grand finale Jam Session where participants can experience how their own work interacts with others to produce an even bigger and better sound.

Suitable for all ages and levels of ability.

African Drumming

These workshops are dedicated to West African drumming rhythms and percussion music from Senegal, Gambia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Mali, Guinea and particularly rhythms associated with Djembe, Sabar, and talking drums.

Latin Drumming

Participants can learn traditional Brazilian instruments and will have a chance to work with a variety of latin instruments such as pandeiru, ganza, surdo, agogo, tamborim, cuica an berimbau.

After piloting Beats Diversity at Cube media in 2001 to wide critical acclaim, we were all very pleased and excited to be working with the young people from York and the staff at Cube again. As always the outcome of Beats Diversity is shaped and driven by the young people involved, their skills and interests and this group had quite a lot to add to the mix.

Beats Diversity is an exciting and inventive workshop project aimed at young people of all ages, designed to express the significance of rhythm in all forms of music.
