Presented by Just Addictive Music and Lucorum

Everyone is invited to experience the sights, sounds and taste of a Caribbean Carnival in Barnsley. Carnival is an event that takes place in many of the Caribbean islands annually and is steeped in rich cultural traditions. It features troupes of dancers in stunning costumes and the rhythm of steel bands - the essential sound of carnival.

Performing at Caribbean Carnival is The North Star Steel Orchestra, one of Europe’s oldest and best-established steel bands. Formed in 1975, the band has performed for audiences from London to New York who have been left spellbound, amazed that such rich tonal quality could come from discarded oil drums. Highlights include performing at the Queen’s Jubilee Festival and for Tony Blair at Labour’s 100th birthday celebrations. In 2002 they were crowned champions in the UK National Steel Band Championship.

At Just Addictive Music we have over 2 decades of experience in creating new thrilling & innovative large or small events to educate and entertain audiences of all kinds. We work with organisations of all types small and large.

Our Youth Arts projects are authentic, innovative, imaginative and exciting. Using experienced and skilled artists as tutors, they provide credible and engaging creative opportunities based upon traditional music and arts, and current youth culture of today.

As part of National Poetry Week, Caribbean Carnival is proud to present Performance Poet; Chris Jam. Chris has been performing for 7 years and is a regular at Speak Easy, Manchester where audiences are mesmerised by the rhythm and flow of his words.

“Chris Jam's vocal journey commenced like most of us from hearing his mum and dad singing their favourite tunes around the house, Nat King Cole Jim Reeves Desmond Decker to name a few. He first picked up a microphone and performed on stage with his life long DJ partner Tomlin 'Bluenote' Mckinley basis as the Jam Mc's.” Read more and hear Chris here
