Project Title: Gamsley Community Graffiti Mural

Description: High Peaks Community Arts identified a group of young people in Gamsley, Derbyshire in need of positive activities that would benefit the community, help improve community cohesion and give the young people a sense of pride and ownership. The young people gathered at the garages by a parade of shops and caused concern for some local residents. Young people in the area were invited to take part in a project to create a Graffiti mural that all the residents would appreciate. The initial sessions focused on finding out what the young people liked about their area, making sketches and gathering ideas. The young people then transferred their ideas into a large 3-board mural. This took place over three day sessions that were open to all the young people in the area aged 13 plus.

Outcome: Graffiti Art mural expressing what the young people of Gamsley like about their area.
