Afrique Melody – Harare Session is a tribute to the music and culture of the people of Zimbabwe. Music has a special significance in a country where colonialism, the struggle for independence and recent political turmoil has left many displaced and those at home fearful for the future. Zimbabwe is most famous musically for a local instrument called the mbira. The mbira is the classic instrument of Zimbabwe, with an entire musical genre developed around it. Experience the peaceful, lulling, polyrhythmic cycles of mbira music of Zimbabwe as performed by Kudaushe Matimba and his band Harare.

The main aim of Leeds celebrates will be to is to raise the profile of black music and culture and encourage diversity in its presentation. To achieve this aim we will be hosting events in City centre venues to gain maximum exposure along with locally events.

At Just Addictive Music we have over 2 decades of experience in creating new thrilling & innovative large or small events to educate and entertain audiences of all kinds. We work with organisations of all types small and large.

Harare is one of the few groups to be playing Zimbabwean dance music in Europe. Formed by musicians from the heart of Zimbabwean urban music; Harare combines different styles from Jit Jive to traditional hypnotic rhythms of the mbira which reflect the different backgrounds of the people who make up the group. Harare music is heavily influenced by chimurenga, the genre developed by music guru, Thomas Mapfumo.

Led by highly energetic Kudaushe Matimba, Harare have the style, momentum and experience to show there is a promising future ahead for Zimbabwean based dance music and for their exciting new songs and arrangements. Formerly a keyboard player with the Bhundu Boys, Matimba (marimba, keyboard and vocals) has also worked with some of the most highly rated Zimbabwean musicians such as Chartwell Dutiro, Clive Malunga, Stella Chiweshe, Prince Tendai, Beular Djoko and many more.

Harare's music is about social awareness and life yesterday, today and tomorrow. It expresses emotions such as pain, love, wisdom and rage. It is all about advice, respect, love for one another and compassion. Words to their songs are performed in the Shona language of Zimbabwe. Matimba brings both old and new compositions and arrangements to the Harare set. Some of the songs are traditional ones from Zimbabwe, based on the traditional instrument, the mbira. Matimba strongly believes in the importance of preserving one's heritage through music.

The event also includes a Caribbean buffet and DJs.
