These workshops took place in Rotherham Civic Building, the participants were refugees, asylum seekers, migrants and other ethnic community groups living in Rotherham. The aim of the project was to document and digitally record traditional stories from the participant’s home countries told in both English and in their original language. The participant’s worked with an actor who helped them with their English and with storytelling techniques; the stories were then edited and sound effects added.
Outcome: Audio CD’s of the stories being told in both English and in their original languages, accompanied by an illustrated dual language story book for children. The participants worked with one of Just Addictive Music’s artists to create ideas for the illustrations that were then drawn by the artist for printing. The finished booklets and CD’s went on to form part of Rotherham Libraries collection and are used along with Cultural Story sacks as learning and teaching resources.
Client: Rotherham Metropolitan Council.
