Project Title: Windows on The World

Description: This ambitious project gave young people living in Rotherham the opportunity to access a range of arts skills including:

  • West African drums and percussion
  • Dance from Africa, Europe and Asia
  • Digital photography, graphic design and photo editing
  • Theatre skills
  • Visual art including, graffiti, drawing and painting in various modern and traditional style

The project aimed to celebrate the music, culture and dance from some of the many countries that come together in a multicultural society like our own.
The young people used different visual medium to capture the atmosphere of the workshops and to create representations of their own cultural backgrounds.
The music and dance focused the young people on learning traditional and contemporary rhythms and dance styles and blending them to create their own compositions.

The workshop sessions were lead by seven of Just Addictive Music’s facilitators and directed and coordinated by Paul Pryce and James Mitchell the lead artist.

Outcomes: Windows on the World presented a week of inspiring workshops focused around the creation of:

  • Art works using various medium to be displayed in Winter Hill CLC
  • A percussion performance featuring the groups own compositions
  • Traditional and contemporary dance routines
  • A performance to showcase the week’s activities and achievements
  • An exhibition of the art produced during the week
